Do it yourself
Overcoming social anxiety begins with acceptance of the problem. Next, it requires a strong will power and determination. It is not easy because you have to fight against your mind and convince it that your fears are all unfounded. If you realize that you have a problem, you can take a number of remedial steps against it. You can begin with facing your problems. When you are alone and away from crowds, imagine a situation where people are all around you. Play the scene in your mind and imagine the different ways in which you can react to them. People in the crowd are not out to get you because they are all busy in their own worlds. Look around and see friendly faces. Training your mind to face these fears will be very helpful in the real world because you are prepared to face the situation. When in crowds, if anxiety threatens to take over, you can turn your attention away from the crowd. Another very effective way of overcoming the fear is to spend time in crowds and learn to face it. Tell yourself over and over again that people here are good and friendly. You will probably run home after a few minutes in the crowd in the beginning, but gradually, you will find that you are able to spend more time without fear. The process is gradual but effective nevertheless.
